Downloading and Installing the Absolute Agent
To ensure a successful installation of the Absolute agent, you will need an active Absolute account with administrator privileges, and you must have local administrator rights on that device if performing a manual installation. Finally, please verify that the device is running a supported operating system, such as Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS.
Downloading the Installer
- Access the Absolute Console:
- Open a web browser and navigate to https://app.absolute.com.
- Log in with your administrator credentials.
- Navigate to the Deployment Section:
- From the console dashboard, go to Settings > Agent Management.
- Here you will find all options for deploying the Absolute agent.
- Choose Your Download Method:
- Direct Download: Select and download the agent installer (e.g., .msi for Windows or .pkg for macOS) for manual installation on individual devices.
- Deployment Scripts: Access customized scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for automated deployment via tools like Microsoft Intune, Jamf, or Group Policy (GPO).

For new devices, the Absolute agent is often embedded in the firmware and will activate automatically upon first internet connection. No download is required in this case.
Installing the Agent
Method 1: Manual Installation (Direct Download)
- Locate the downloaded installer file on your device.
- Double-click the file to run it. On macOS, you may need to right-click and select Open to bypass Gatekeeper restrictions.
- The installer will run silently. No user interaction is required.
- The agent will automatically register itself to your Absolute account upon completion.
Method 2: Automated Deployment (For IT Teams)
- Use the scripts and instructions provided in the Devices > Deployment section of the console to push the installer through your preferred software distribution system (e.g., MDM, GPO, SCCM).
Verification and Post-Installation
- Verification: After installation and a brief period (allow up to 15 minutes), the device will appear in the Devices > All Devices list in your Absolute console. This confirms a successful deployment.
- Troubleshooting: If the device does not appear, ensure it has internet access and that no firewall or proxy is blocking communication. For persistent issues, contact Technical Support.
Persistence Activation (Recommended)
To ensure that the Absolute persistence module activates correctly on supported devices, we recommend performing a reboot sequence after the agent installation. The ideal sequence is:
- Reboot the device once immediately after the agent installation.
- Wait 10–15 minutes to allow the agent to initialize and communicate with Absolute services.
- Perform a second reboot.
You can monitor the persistence activation status in the console using the predefined Activation report located under Reports. Please note that the persistence status may take up to 24 hours to visually update in the console.
